Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is mastering theoretical knowledge about interpersonal communication and learning to apply it in model situation. After successful completing of the subject students are able to define basic terms of social communication (communication process, communication channels, message). They are able to explain main elements of rhetorical skills ( voice care, pronunciation, voice and verbal dynamics). They are able to identify used methods of verbal and non-verbal communication in practice and explain the nature of communication skills with regards to the context of their application in different fields of human activity. They can also assess the purpose of particular communication strategies in interpersonal relations, to distinguish manipulative and non-manipulative (assertive) ways of behaviour in group and pair communication. They are able to name assertive techniques of behaviour, to compare pros and cons of manipulative and non-manipulative behaviour in professional context and also in social relations in general. They are able to evaluate the importance of media communication and their impact on the consciousness and behavioour of a consumer.
Syllabus
  • 1. Human communication from historical aspects: from the view of psychology and phylosophy. Social context of communication, contextual modality, socialization.
  • 2. Inner context, relationship figure and social stereotypes. Communication models.
  • 3. Rhetoric anticipations and skills, how train speech. Training of readiness, rate of swelling (movement), reflexion, persuasion, pathos.
  • 4. Social connection, interaction, production of social structure.
  • 5. Evaluative, selective, disciplinary and counselling interview. Dysfunction communication and disturbances in communication.
  • 6. Mimicry, visual communication, gestic, haptic and posturology.Researches in nonverbal communication.
  • 7.Proxemics, kinesics, communication by face and by negotiation(chronemics),paralinguistics.
  • 8. Word communication, interview, implicit and explicit communication; denotation, connotation,assertivity.
  • 9. Patterns of communication in a group. Communication and self - confidence, self- presentation (self - image), mediation.
  • 10. Empathic and agonistic approaches. Theory of Carl Rogers, systems approaches, motivation.
  • 11. Theory of communications plays, communication according to ghe transaction analysises. Styles of leading, mobbing.
  • 12. Social communication mediated by a mass medium, communication in advertisements, bureaucratic institutions.
  • 13. Communications stigmatization, „ labeling" and categorizing of people.

To pass one final test in the credit week with at least 70%. The test should contain at leasz 15 questions compiled on the basis of the taught subject matter.
