Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is familiarization with practical possibilities of solving interpersonal communication problems, verbal and non-verbal means with emphasis on model situations in which a worker in building industry can encounter. Another objective of the subject is the introduction to the theory of communication and its practical use, intentional regulation of one´s own communicative behaviour and behaviour of other participants of the communication process and mastering of assertive and tactic actions. After passing the subject successfully students are able to describe basic terms related to the field of interpersonal communication. Students know the main communication competences, they are able to interpret the ways of their use and to explain their importance for a successful performance of their profession.

  • ­1. Types, forms and methods of communication, theory of communication, communication competence, communication cycle.
  • 2. Human personality, emotions, intelligence, gender role during communication.
  • 3. Listening: good, active and empathic listening.
  • 4. Verbal communication, language, writing, paralinguistic communication, disturbed communication skills.
  • 5. Methods of social behaviour, aggressive/passive/assertive behaviour, empathy and manipulation.
  • 6. Nonverbal communication.
  • 7. Negotiation, stances, argumentation, objections, questions, conversation.
  • 8. Communication in front of an audience, presentation, self-presentation, rhetoric.
  • 9. Mass communication, distance communication, the art of a phone call, communication on the Internet, e-books.
  • 10. Corporate communication, communication audit, communication strategies, team, leader.
  • 11. Conflicts, communication manoeuvres, disturbance in the communication, critiques.
  • 12. Management communication, office meetings, discussions.
  • 13. Intercultural communication.
