Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to introduce students to different areas of road transport technology and controlling of traffic processes, to familiarize students with legislation and other technical documents for road transport, and to introduce students to basic traffic engineering methods for transport analysis.
Graduates of the course are able to characterize regularities of technology and management of road transportation and use acquired knowledge to solve practical problems in this area. Students will gain knowledge in transport practice by evaluation of exercises, analyzes, presentations and solving real situations in the field of road transport and traffic engineering.
Syllabus
  • 1) Introduction, national and international legal regulations in the field of road transport.
    2) Dividing road vehicles, semi trucks and trailers by type.
    3) Basic technological, economic and performance indicators in road transport.
    4) Traffic Flow Theory - factors influencing the traffic flow.
    5) Traffic flow characteristics.
    6) Road transport infrastructure - urban and rural roads.
    7) Systems and technology for monitoring and controlling the road traffic.
    8) Transport telematics on roads and higways.
    9) Population mobility and motorization in the Czech Republic. Road traffic volume and traffic surveys.
    10) Technical inspection and registration of motor vehicles.
    11) Road tax. Insurance of liability for damage caused by vehicles.
    12) Highway toll systems. Track-trace system, vehicle location, technical and operational indicators of vehicle.
    13) Road vehicles suitable for combined and intermodal transport.
