The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The course focuses on the preparation and realization of empirical studies in the areas within business economy (in terms of activities and functions of a business). The main objective is to provide the students with a methodology for preparing their diploma thesis as well as for systematic expert work in any discipline of business economy.
Learning outcomes
After the successful completion of the course, students are able to:
- describe the main concepts and principles of empirical research,
- describe the current methods of both qualitative and quantitative empirical research and the conditions of their application,
- apply deeper knowledge of approaches in the preparation of empirical research,
- prepares a quality method for obtaining data,
- propose a sample set so that it corresponds with the base set,
- conduct research,
- interpret the results of the research conducted,
- evaluate the design of empirical research and identify weakness.

  • 2. Research methods and basics of research work in business economics, management, and other related fields.
  • 3. Plan and stages of research work. Research topic, research problem and its formulation.
  • 4. Formulation of hypotheses and research questions.
  • 5. Research sample.
  • 6. Narrative research, questioning method, its characteristics, questionnaires.
  • 7. Experimental methods. Types of experiments, realization, evaluation.
  • 8. Quantitative research (quantitative research logic, quantitative data analysis), methods of measurement.
  • 9. Qualitative research.
  • 10. Qualitative approach to data analysis.

Exam conditions
For successful completion of the course it is necessary to achieve at least 70 % of the course and final test together under the conditions specified below. In the course test, students can get up to 30 points, i.e. 30 %. In the final test, students can get up to 70 points, i.e. 70 %. Grading for the course, i.e. points for the final test (70 - 0) + points for the course test (30 - 0): A 100 – 90, B 89.99 – 84, C 83.99 – 77, D 76.99 – 73, E 72.99 – 70, FX 69.99 – 30, F 29.99 – 0.

Attendance in the course is defined in a separate VSTE internal standard (Evidence of student attendance at VSTE) for all forms of study. Students in full-time form of study are obliged to attend at least 70 % of the lessons (except for the lectures).
