Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with problems of organization and management of railway transport technology. Students will learn about the basic terms and specifics of this transport sector, its position in the transport system, legislation, information systems in railway transport. Students will get familiar with the term railway network, aspects of railway tracks construction, security equipment and terms railway transport fleet, marshalling yards, train formation, theoretical graph of train running. After the course, students are able to use principles of the drawing timetable creation and fundamentals for determining the railway infrastructure capacity, functions of transportation rules and tariffs in railway transport.

  • 1) Introduction to the issues of railway transport.
  • 2) Basic terms in railway transport and its specifics.
  • 3) Legislation of railway transport operation and railway market.
  • 4) Railway network and railway tracks construction, security equipment.
  • 5) Railway transport fleet.
  • 6) Organization of railway traffic, traffic and signal regulations.
  • 7) Local transport processes (marshalling yards).
  • 8) Network traffic processes (train formation).
  • 9) Theoretical graph of train running - aids.
  • 10) Principles of the drawing timetable creation and fundamentals for determining the railway infrastructure capacity.

  • 12) Passenger transport and high-speed transport.
  • 13) Transportation rules and tariffs in railway transport.
