Course objectives supported by learning outcomes

The course “Transport Technology and Management – Public Transit” aims to present the relationships between technological issues and the management of public transit, with a focus on practical operations in large cities and metropolitan areas, while emphasizing the promotion of green skills, sustainability, and the fulfillment of the goals of the European Green Deal (Green Deal), particularly in the areas of eco-friendly mobility and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The course also focuses on the potential use of renewable energy sources in public transit operations and examines the environmental aspects of public transit from various perspectives, including comparisons with other modes of transportation. The course also covers topics related to innovations in public transit vehicle propulsion technologies and their impact on the energy efficiency and environmental sustainability of transportation systems.

Learning outcomes
The learning outcomes include an understanding of the environmental and energy aspects of public transportation and the ability to analyze its energy consumption and environmental impacts. Students will acquire competencies that support the development of sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in line with the goals of the European Green Deal.

  • Transportation services in the region, characteristics, and factors affecting public transit.
  • Organization and management of a public transit company.
  • Emergencies in public transit, operational management of public transit.
  • Transportation planning, management, and route design for public transit.
  • Service intervals, schedules, and operational tools; spatial and temporal integration in public transit.
  • Vehicles and subsystems of individual and mass urban transportation; technological characteristics of mass transit vehicles.
  • Legislative requirements for emissions reduction. Assessment of the overall environmental impacts of public transportation (manufacturing–operation–disposal).
  • Energy consumption, emissions, and environmental impacts of various types of public transportation vehicles and infrastructure.
  • Current technologies, trends, and innovations in the field of propulsion and energy for public transit vehicles.
  • Use of alternative energy sources (solar, wind, and other renewable technologies) in public transit operations.
  • Support for and promotion of public transit (direct and indirect measures).
  • Information tools for passengers and for operational purposes in public transit; quality in public transit.
  • Integrated public transit terminals (significance, types of structural designs).
