Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic technical and operational characteristics of intermodal transport systems, as well as organizational and technological conditions for their implementation in practice.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to characterize the basic requirements for the implementation of intermodal transport systems, will be able to design intermodal transport systems independently and to solve the cargo handling technology.
Syllabus
  • 1) Basic concepts in intermodal transport, the importance and effects of intermodal transport. 2) Technical and technological characteristics of transportation systems in intermodal transport - part 1. 3) Technical and technological characteristics of transportation systems in intermodal transport - part 2. 4) Technical and technological characteristics of transportation systems in intermodal transport - part 3. 5) Legislation of intermodal transport and systemic measures to support the development of intermodal transport. 6) The organization of intermodal transport (implementation, statistics). 7) Intermodal operators in Czech Republic. 8) Intermodal load units (definitions, types). 9) Means of transport in intermodal transport. 10) Handling equipments in intermodal transport. 11) Intermodal terminals (characteristics, basic elements). 12) Technology of transport service in intermodal terminals. 13) Intermodal terminals in the Czech Republic.

Exam conditions
Grading of the course: Final Test: maximum 70% (0-700 points), seminary work 30 %. Successful graduates of the course have to get totally at least 70 points: A 100 – 90, B 89,99 – 84, C 83,99 – 77, D 76,99 – 73, E 72,99 – 70, FX 69,99 – 30, F 69,99 - 0.

Attendance at seminars is not monitored due to independent work on a semester project focused on the design of an intermodal transport system as a variant of the classic existing transport systems. At the beginning of the semester the student will receive the assignment of the project, at the end of the semester there will be a defense of the processed project. During the semester, the time of the seminar will be for individual consultations.
