Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The course objective is to deepen B1 language skills and gradually achieve B1+ according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, improve vocabulary and listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. Upon successful completion of the course, the students are able to understand lectures, interviews and participate in discussions on general topics/topics of their interest. Students understand TV and radio news, programmes and newspaper/online articles on topical issues. They are fluent and able to express their opinion on a wide range of topics.
Learning outcomes
Having successfully completed the subject, the students will be able to:
- communicate their enquiries more extensively and explain given problems;
- provide specific information required in an interview or a consultation;
- summarise or express (orally or in a written form) their opinion about a short story, article, discussion or documentary and answer further questions in detail;
- carry out a prepared interview, listen and check the information mentioned, though it may be occasionally necessary to ask for repetition if the other person’s response is rapid or extended;
- describe how to do various activities and give detailed instructions;
- give their point of view on topical issues, present the advantages and disadvantages of various solutions
- write a clear text on a wide range of topics, write report or essay, defend or oppose specific points of view

Exam conditions

Final Test 70 % (0 – 70 points) and semester exam 30% (0-30). The final test requires the B1+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Successful graduates of the course have to get totally at least 70 points (from both parts of tests).

Teacher's information
Attendance in lessons is defined in a separate internal standard of the ITB (Evidence of attendance of students at ITB). It is compulsory, except of the lectures, for full-time students to attend 70 % lesson of the subject in a semester. Active participation in seminars is required The condition for successful completion of the course is the active participation of students and fulfillment of assigned tasks Students with an individual study plan (ISP) must notify the teacher of this fact no later than the second week of the semester.

Students with ISPs must complete a semester exam and final test. The semester exam will take place on a date agreed with the teacher. The date must be agreed with the teacher no later than two weeks before the end of the teaching period. In case of any questions, please contact the course guarantor
