- Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
- The objective is to acquire knowledge of English for specific purposes, specifically English for mechanical engineering. Upon successful completion of the course, students are able to discuss a professional topics (within the topics discussed in seminars), understand authentic texts in English, look up information in English texts, and look up information for preparation and delivery of professional presentation. they are able to write a formal mail related to the topics discussed in the seminars, describe a problem and suggest solutions. They are able to describe mechanisms, causes and results of certain phenomena and processes.

1. Jobs – vocabulary, interviews, formal and informal emails.
2. Revision of tenses – present simple vs. present , present perfect.
3. Measurement and dimensions, technical vs. persuasive description.
4. Giving instructions, mechanisms. Machine parts.
5. Describing fixes, explaining processes.
6. Active vs. passive – resent and past passive forms.
7. Welcoming visitors – greetings and farewells, requests, offers, apologies.
8. Quantifiers, countable and uncountable nouns.
9. Planning. First and Second Conditional.
10. Rules and regulations. Equipment documentation.
11. Causes and results, cause-effect verbs, negative prefixes.
12. Reporting accidents, past simple vs. past continuous.

- Test – final 70 %
Presentation 30 % - Exam conditions
- Final Test 70 % (0 – 70 points) and semester exam 30% (0-30). The final test requires the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Successful graduates of the course have to get totally at least 70 points (from both parts of tests).

- The course is taught annually.
- Teacher's information
- Attendance in lessons is defined in a separate internal standard of ITB (Evidence of attendance of students at ITB). It is compulsory, except for the lectures, for full-time students to attend 70 % of the lessons on the subject in a semester. The continuous and final assessment shall also apply to students with ISP. The student and teacher will agree on the specific date of the continuous assessment. The date must be set no later than two weeks before the end of the semester.
