Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to summarize professional, methodological and formal requirements for the writing the seminar paper following the predefined structure starting from the selection of a topic through assignment, preparation, and processing of materials to writing the paper, including the required bibliography citation style and form of the paper. The course also includes the preparation of a quality presentation and its presenting to a lay audience.
Learning outcomes
Student: • can define the main and partial goals of the seminar papers,
• understands the principles of setting research hypotheses and verifying them,
• practically masters the work with the main database sources available at VŠTE,
• masters the principle of analysis of information obtained from information sources,
• can process the research part on the selected topic while adhering to the specified parameters (eg citation, qualification, novelty)
• knows the principles of working with scientific journals and books,
• understands the principles of using analytical methods and the principles of presentation of obtained outputs,
• can evaluate the obtained outputs with a practical impact on the user sphere,
• knows the principles of elaboration of the presentation of the work and its defense,
• respects the ethical principles of processing scientific texts.
Syllabus
  • 1. Assignment of the seminar paper.
  • 2. – 4. Specification of the seminar paper structure; preparation of the introductory part; Setting the objectives, specification of the research problem, formulation of research questions in accordance with the objectives set.
  • 5. - 6. Searching and collecting information, preparation of materials for literary research according to the topic selected, work in library, work with databases (Scopus, Web of Science) and websites.
  • 7. - 8. Preparation of literary research; formulation of hypotheses.
  • 9. - 12. Methodology – specification of the material used; (description of the research sample); selection and description of specific methods.
  • 13. - 14. Selection of specific enterprises (organizations), negotiations with their representatives on enabling the research and conditions of the research in specific enterprises.
  • 15. - 16. Preparation of a questionnaire survey, interviews, further research according to the required type (qualitative, quantitative, mixed research).
  • 17. - 20. Ongoing processing of data and information obtained from the questionnaire survey, interviews; other research in specific enterprises and according to the specific needs of given specializations; preparation of the results, discussion.
  • 21. - 22. Preparation of the conclusion; compiling a reference list; completion of the paper, layout.
  • 23. - 26. Ongoing consultations; preparation of a presentation; presentation of a seminar work followed by a discussion.

Exam conditions
The student prepares a seminar paper on a topic assigned by the teacher. When writing the seminar paper, the student is obliged to respect the methodological guidelines for writing seminar papers (available in IS).

The course is taught annually.
Teacher's information
The student inserts the prepared seminar work into a folder created in the IS system under this subject Project. The preparation of the seminar thesis will be in accordance with the knowledge and skills acquired from the Bachelor's degree in the subject Methodology of Professional Work and the follow-up Master's degree in the subject Research Methods. Attendance of 70% is compulsory in the seminars. Information for students with an ISP (Individual Study Plan). If a student with an ISP is unable to attend the interim assessment of a course, he/she will complete the interim assessment at a time agreed with the teacher. A student with an Individual Study Plan is required to contact the instructor immediately upon approval of the ISP. If the student fails to do so, his/her ISP will not be considered. Students with an ISP may contact the course advisor via email at strakova@mail.vstecb.cz if they have any questions.
