- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
- The course explains to students the issue of corrosion and corrosion protection in terms of causes, influences arising from the purpose and function of machinery, as well as the consequences of both economic and safety. Students will be introduced to areas such as corrosion, definitions, damage, classification, physicochemical bases, internal and external factors, types of corrosion, methods of corrosion protection, surface treatment, classification, pretreatment, galvanic coatings, conversion and oxide coatings., Thermal applied Mr. PVD, CVD, metal-ceramic, organic coatings, ecological aspects of PU.
- Learning outcomes
- Graduate can define environment influences to construction and suitable apply anticorrosive protection.
- Syllabus
- 1. Corrosion of metals - definition, meaning, basic terms, classification. 2. Electrochemical corrosion of metals - physico-chemical bases, thermodynamic concepts (electrochemical reactions, anodic and cathodic processes, overvoltage, polarization, mixed potential, exchange current, depolarization, passivity). 3. Internal and external factors of metal corrosion (material composition, structure, surface tension - environmental composition, pH, oxidizers, flow, temperature, pressure, polarization, radiation, contact with other materials). 4. Types of corrosion (macrocells, crevice, spot, intercrystalline, selective, erosion, corrosion cracking, hydrogen attack. 5. Corrosion according to the environment, methods of corrosion protection. 6. Climatology, goat tests 7. Surface treatment of metals. Classification. 8. Mechanical modifications, preliminary modifications. 9. Electrolytic deposition of metals. Current and currentless methods. 10. Conversion and oxide coatings. Non-electrolytic deposition methods. 11. Diffusion coatings. Metal-ceramic coatings. 12. Enamels. Organic coatings. 13. Ecological aspects of surface treatment technologies.
