- The course objective is to deepen the professional language knowledge acquired within the course N_AJS_1 and acquire technical vocabulary in other topics related to the students´ field of study. Upon successful completion of the course, the students are able to describe reactions and changes and other processes related to their field of study, describe methods of calculation, measurements, specifications, possible risks and safety at work.
- Learning outcomes
- Students are able to:
- describe chemical reactions and changes resulting from specific activities;
- describe causes and effects, describe preventive measures;
- create and read technical documentation in English;
- use advanced grammar structures to speak about causes and results;
- express their ideas and thoughts clearly using technical vocabulary related to the topics discussed within the seminars. - Syllabus
- 1. Chemical reactions, relevant vocabulary. Used to do vs (get) used to doing.
- 2. Making predictions. Expressing certainty. Gradable and ungradable adjectives.
- 3. Handling complaints. Providing explanations, making promises.
- 4. Describing damage. Mitigating language (seems, appears, looks, sounds).
- 5. Skills and experience, reporting progress.
- 6. Description of finished actions, mixed passive forms: hs been done/has to be done, etc.
- 7. Technical writing. Saying calculations, results and approximations.
- 8. Describing location. Phrasal verbs.
- 9. Engine parts.
- 10. Organizing schedules.
- 11. Faults and hazards, warnings.
- 12. Security, discussing risks.
- 13. Should and be supposed to, likelihood expressions.

Semester exam 30 % - Exam conditions
- For successful completion of the course, the students are required to achieve at least 70 points (70 %), where: semester exam (in the form of presentation) - max. 30 points, i.e. 30 %. Final test - max. 70 points, i.e.70 %. Overall grading of the course (semester exam + final test): A 100-90, B 89,99 – 84, C 83,99 – 77, D 76,99 – 73, E 72,99 – 70, FX 69,99 – 30, F 29,99 – 0. Students in a full-time form of study are required to participate in at least 70 % of the seminars.

Full-time students are obliged to attend 70% of seminars. For successful completion, students must actively participate in the seminars and perform the assigned tasks.
Students with an Individual Study Plan (ISP) must notify the teacher no later than the second week of the semester. Students with an ISP must complete both midterm and final assessments. The midterm assessment will take place on a date agreed with the teacher. The date must be arranged with the teacher no later than two weeks before the end of the class period.
