- Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
- Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the basics of geology, engineering geology and soil mechanics. Upon completion of the course the student will be able to recognize the basic types of rocks and soil, to determine their physical and mechanical properties and suitability for foundation, or to recognize the risks and to find the appropriate professional advice. The student will be able to use engineering and geological assessment - to understand the natural pressures and stability problems in the soil and rock environment - to know the basic geological concepts, the division of rocks, endogenous and exogenous processes - to have basic idea of hydrogeology and influence of water on geological subsoil and water movement in the rocks - can imagine the strain in the earth. On the basis of acquired knowledge the student will be able to decide on the choice of foundation structures.
- Learning outcomes
- Students are acquainted with the basics of geology, engineering geology and soil mechanics. Thy are able to recognize the basic types of rocks and soils, to determine their physical and mechanical properties and suitability for foundation, or to recognize the risks and to find the appropriate expert advice. They can use engineering-geological expertise. They understand ground pressures and stable tasks in soil and rock environments - they know the basic geological concepts, the division of rocks, endogenous and exogenous processes, they have a basic idea of hydrogeology and the influence of water on geological subsoil and water movement in rocks. The student is able to decide on the choice of foundation structures.
