Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge and skills for processing construction budgets, calculating construction costs, improving work in the field of quantity surveying based on construction project documentation, and basic user knowledge of construction budgeting software. Educational objectives are focused on the theoretical principles of construction budgeting procedures and the practical, efficient use of computing technology in processing construction budgets in accordance with construction documentation. The course serves as a preparatory course for the professional exam "Construction Cost Estimator (code: 36-170-N)" and is conducted in accordance with the standards of the National Qualifications Framework.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to navigate the requirements for processing project documentation, design structures and construction components, and understand the methods of pricing buildings and construction works in the Czech Republic.
Syllabus
  • 1. Familiarization with requirements for processing project documentation
  • 2. Designing structures and structural components of buildings
  • 3. Utilizing information and communication technologies
  • 4. Navigating construction documentation and technical specifications
  • 5. Understanding methods of pricing buildings and construction work in the Czech Republic
  • 6. Providing necessary data for budgeting a construction project
  • 7. Understanding the pricing of construction work
  • 8. Determining unit prices for construction budgeting
  • 9. Using specialized budgeting software or universal spreadsheet software
  • 10. Processing quantity take-offs as a basis for budgeting
  • 11. Applying budget completion principles and key rules for item usage in construction budgeting
  • 12. Preparing data for subsequent activities in the construction preparation process
  • 13. Developing construction budgets
  • 14. Performing a complete simple quantity take-off and budget calculation
  • 15. Familiarity with legal regulations for conducting business activities

Exam conditions
During the semester, the student will prepare a seminar paper, from which they can earn a maximum of 70 points. The seminar paper must be submitted no later than before the credit test, which will be scheduled by the instructor in the first class. The credit test is worth a maximum of 30 points. The overall course grading, i.e., points for the seminar paper (70 - 0) + points from the credit test (30 - 0), is as follows: Passed: 100 - 70 points Retake test: 69.99 - 30 points Not passed: 29.99 - 0 points.

Attendance in lessons is defined in a separate internal standard of ITB (Evidence of attendance of students at ITB). It is compulsory, except of the lectures, for full-time students to attend 70 % lesson of the subjet in a semester.
