Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the relationships between construction participants. The student will learn how to manage engineering activities both in the preparation phase and in the construction implementation phase.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
• know the basic terminology and concepts used in the construction industry, especially in the preparation and implementation of buildings,
• know the individual phases of the construction life cycle,
• orient yourself in theoretical approaches in permitting and managing construction implementation,
• able to give well-founded comments and co-create contracts for work for the preparation of project documentation,
• able to optimize the building permit process for specific construction contracts,
• be able to apply the principles of construction preparation in practice,
• able to make well-founded comments and co-create work contracts for building construction,
• able to optimize the construction implementation process for specific construction contracts,
• be able to solve legislative and other impacts arising from conflict situations on the construction site,
• be able to keep a construction diary on construction sites,
• be able to apply the principles of construction management in practice.
Syllabus
  • 1) Introduction to the issue of construction management
  • 2) Construction life cycle, pre-investment phase, investment phase, use phase
  • 3) Optimization of the building permit process
  • 4) Contract for work for the preparation of project documentation: preparation for concluding a business relationship, concept of contract, contractual parties, subject of work, scope of work
  • 5) Contract for work for the preparation of project documentation: period of performance, price and invoicing, other and final provisions
  • 6) Introduction to supplier-customer relations during construction
  • 7) Contract for construction work: contracting parties, subject and scope of the work, deadlines for construction
  • 8) Contract for construction work: price and invoicing, conditions for handing over the construction site
  • 9) Contract for construction work: conditions of construction, acceptance of construction
  • 10) Contract for construction work: defects and unfinished works, warranty period and complaints
  • 11) Construction work contract: sanctions, other and final provisions
  • 12) Approval - use of the building
  • 13) Construction diary

Attendance in lessons is defined in a separate internal standard of ITB (Evidence of attendance of students at ITB). It is compulsory, except of the lectures, for full-time students to attend 70 % lesson of the subjet in a semester.
