Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the solution of bar, wall and plate structures by the finite element method applied to the solution of steel and wood structures.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student is able to solve rebar, wall and plate structures by the finite element method applied to the solution of steel and wood structures.
Syllabus
  • 1. Static model of the structure, preparation of input data, calculation, evaluation and control of results. 2. Solution of bar structures, arch structures, trusses, frames, trusses, etc. 3. Basic tasks, concepts and assumptions of the theory of elasticity and strength. Displacement. Deformation. Tension. Saint-Venant's principle of locality. Linear theory of elasticity. Physical equations, working diagram. Member analysis - basic assumptions. 4. Relationship between components of internal forces and components of stresses, components of internal forces and external loads. 5. Simple tension and pressure - stress, deformation, displacement. Influence of temperature field and initial stresses. 6. Simple bend and oblique bend. Simple skid. Simple bending - calculation of normal stresses. 7. Dimensioning of bent beams. Transformation of bent bars. Differential equations of the bending line. Significance of shear stress during bending. Shear center. Free and bound twisting. 8. Free torsion - massive circular and non-circular cross section. Thin-walled cross section closed and open. Complex cases of bar stress. 9. Spatial and oblique bending. Tension (pressure) and bending in the plane. 10. Eccentric thrust and pressure. Dimensioning of beams in case of compound stress. Stability and buckling strength of pressed bars. Euler's solution. Critical force and stress. Strut strength concept. 11. Bending with buckling pressure. Assessment of bars for struts. 12. Theory of strength and failure. 13. Stress and strain at the point of the body. Main stress at plane stress, elastic and plastic state.

Submission of assigned tasks 30 %
Exam conditions
Participation in seminars and exercises. At least 70% participation in exercises. Absences in the range of a maximum of 30% must be excused and the apology must be accepted by the teacher (the reason for the apology is decided by the teacher). Continuous submission of assignments assigned to exercises in the deadlines set by the teacher. Final written exam.
