- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
- The course provides students with a comprehensive insight into the issues of road transport within the Czech Republic as well as in an international context. The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the legislative framework and social regulations governing road transport operations. Emphasis is placed on understanding the technological and economic aspects of operation, including the calculation of performance indicators and costs. Furthermore, students will master the principles of traffic flow theory, traffic survey methodology, and road infrastructure issues in both urban and non-urban areas (intra-urban and extra-urban). An integral part of the curriculum involves orientation in modern trends, such as transport telematics, reducing negative externalities, and the greening of transport. The conclusion of the course is dedicated to practical issues regarding business entrepreneurship, taxation, and infrastructure charging (toll systems).
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course, the student will gain an overview of the legislative framework, social regulations, and business conditions in road transport. They will master the calculation of technical-economic indicators and understand the principles of taxation and toll systems. Furthermore, the student will comprehend traffic flow theory, including methodologies for traffic surveys and vehicle detection. Finally, they will become familiar with modern trends in transport telematics and strategies for reducing negative transport externalities.
- Syllabus
- 1) Introduction, national and international legislative regulations in the field of road transport. 2) Division of road transport branches 1 3) Division of road transport branches 2 4) Basic technological and performance indicators in road transport. 5) Basic economic indicators in road transport. 6) Social legislation in road transport. 7) Theory of traffic flow - basic traffic characteristics, level of traffic flow quality. 8) Road transport infrastructure - land roads in urban and extra-urban areas. 9) Externalities of road transport and possibilities of their reduction. 10) Monitoring of traffic intensity, TP 189 and TP 225, traffic surveys, methods of vehicle detection, ecological detectors. 11) Transport telematics on roads and motorways, road traffic management systems and their support for reducing externalities from road transport. 12) Entrepreneurship in road transport. Technical inspections, registration and insurance of road vehicles and requirements for the ecological operation of road vehicles. 13) Road tax, highway fees and toll systems in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Combined Studies: - Students will prepare an independent term paper/project according to the teacher's instructions, for which they can receive up to 30 points. - In the examination period, the student will be evaluated for a maximum of 70 points for the written test. - Attendance in lessons is defined in a separate internal standard of ITB (Evidence of attendance of students at ITB). It is compulsory, except of the lectures, for full-time students to attend 70 % lesson of the subjet in a semester.
