- Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
- The aim of the subject is to introduce the most important terminology related to regions, classification of the regions, regional management and to explain the most important terms in relation to the regional policy and its implementation to the national policy and the EU policy. A part of the course is also related to the tools of the regional policy and their advantages and disadvantages for the regional development of an area. The legislative framework of regional and structural policy is explained in detail, including the programming documents at all levels within the framework of both the vertical and horizontal organization, and coherence.
- Learning outcomes
- After the course, the student:
1. knows the most important terminology related to regional science;
2. is able to explain the use of different tool of the regional development, regional planning and spatial planning;
3. is able to define and describe the relations of different levels of the programming documents of the Czech Republic and the EU;
4. knows the purpose of the urban, municipal and regional development programme;
5. explains the types of cooperation of the municipalities and the other actors of the regional development. - Syllabus
- Lectures:
- 1. Regional development, regional planning and spatial planning;
- 2. Regional analysis, types of regional analysis, the most important indices of the regional analysis;
- 3. Methodology of the regional development, approaches to the regional development, strategic planning and regional development, the most important actors of the regional development;
- 4. Conceptual documents, the structure of the conceptual documents, a strategy, a programme, a plan;
- 5. Development programmes of towns, municipalities and regions, content and use of the programmes;
- 6. Principles of programming and projects in relation to the structural policy;
- 7. Methodology of project creation within the structural policy, the most important procedures in project management;
- 8. Spatial planning;
- 9. Spatial planning in relation to the regional development and its position in the regional policy;
- 10. Urbanization, suburbanization, desurbanization;
- 11. Forms of cooperation of municipalities, inter-municipal cooperation, cooperation with other actors in the region;
- 12. National and international cooperation of municipalities;
- 13. Special areas of interest of regional policy, the use of brownfields, the emergence and possibility of using clusters and cluster initiatives.

- To complete the test, it is necessary to score at least 70% of the average from the ongoing and final evaluation, under the above mentioned conditions: the highest score for the ongoing evaluation is 30 points (30%); the highest score for the final test is 70 points (70%). The grades of the course (70-0) points for the final test together with 30-0 points for the ongoing evaluation) are scored as follows: A = 100-90; B = 88.99 – 84; C= 83.99 – 77; D = 76.99 – 73; E = 72.99 – 70; Fx = 69.99 – 30; F = 29.99 – 0.

- Attendance in the lessons of all types is covered in the internal standard of the Institute (Evidence Docházky Studentů na VŠTE). For the students of the full-time study, 70% attendance in the seminars is mandatory.
