- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Mechanical Engineering (programme VŠTE, STRO)
- Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
- The purpose of subject is to obtain basic orientation in surface technologies (deposition technologies of thin layers and coatings) so, student should be capable to explore influence of used coating on conditions of function of arrangement, apparatus, single parts, structural element. Student should understand relationship among chemical composition, structure and properties of used coating and concerning technology his deposition. To be acquainted with modern methods and instruments for evaluation of chemical composition, structure and selected properties of coatings and with trends in development of new types of coatings.
- Learning outcomes
- Student is able to:
- orientation in surface technologies (thin film coating technologies)
- assess the effect of coating application on the conditions of operation of equipment, devices, components, parts
- to understand the relationship between the chemical composition, structure and properties of the coating used in relation to its deposition technology - Syllabus
- 1. Chemical and electrochemical deposition of coatings from solutions. 2. Principles of vacuum technology. 3. PVD technologies (evaporation and sputtering). 4. CVD technologies and their variants. 5. Other types of deposition technology. 6. Inorganic non-metallic coatings (phosphate, chromatizing, oxidic). 7. Metallic coatings deposited on metal and non-metallic substrates. 8. Hard and superhard coatings. 9. Composite coatings. 10. Biocompatible coatings and coatings with specific properties. 11. Evaluation methods of chemical composition of layers and coatings. 12. Evaluation of coatings surface morphology and structure. Structural models. 13. Methods and equipment for evaluation of coating properties.
