Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with technology and management in two areas, the water and air transport. After completing the course students are able to describe the problems of technology and management of inland water transport, maritime transportation and air transportation, can characterize individual regularities and technology specifics in inland water transportation and air transportation, to determine costs in multimodal transport and to choose the optimal variant of financing the transportation.
Syllabus
  • 1) Inland water transport - basic characteristics. Legislation and business in water transport in the Czech Republic. Recent trends.
  • 2) Construction of ships. Types of vessels - inland and maritime.
  • 3) Waterways. Ports and docks. Terminals of combined transport.
  • 4) Carriage conditions of inland navigation on the Danube waterway. Carriage conditions of inland navigation on the Rhine. Carriage conditions of inland navigation on the Elbe.
  • 5) Shippers (shipping companies). Port operators. State administration in water transport.
  • 6) Shipping. The international law in high-sea water transport. International maritime institutions. Maritime ports.
  • 7) Transport conditions in shipping. Maritime operators (shipping companies). Grouping the maritime shipping companies.
  • 8) Importance of air travel and transport. Aerial transport process. Air carrier. Technical base of aviation.
  • 9) Domestic and international aviation law and regulations. State administration and state authorities in aviation.
  • 10) Air freight transport under standard conditions.
  • 11) Air freight transport under special conditions.
  • 12) Airports.
  • 13) Shipping and handling equipment.

Exam conditions
For seminary work student can receive a maximum of 30 points and needs to meet at least 60%, (minimum is 18 points). Instructions for seminary work determined at the beginning of the semester by the teacher.

A written examination may receive a maximum of 70 points. Total score represents the sum of points for the seminary work and written examination.

Grading Scale:

A 100 – 90, B 89,99 – 84, C 83,99 – 77, D 76,99 – 73, E 72,99 – 70, FX 69,99 – 30, F 29,99 - 0.
