Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic elements, principles and measurement procedures of AC electrical circuits.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to analyze a given electrical circuit, perform basic electrical measurements common in technical practice.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to non-stationary electromagnetic field, principle of electromagnetic induction.
  • 2. Alternating voltage, alternating current, its effects and power.
  • 3. Alternating current circuits with resistance R, inductance L, capacitance C.
  • 4. AC voltage circuits with RL, RC and RLC connected in series.
  • 5. AC voltage circuits with RL, RC and RLC in parallel.
  • 6. Symbolic solutions of alternating currents, their vector representations, circuits with resistors in series and parallel. parallel and parallel circuits.
  • 7. Multiphase alternating current systems, rotating magnetic field.
  • 8. Electromagnetic energy transfer, transformers.
  • 9. Fundamentals of measurement techniques, uncertainties, errors and accuracy of measurements.
  • 10. Measuring instruments, their types and sensitivities, oscilloscopes.
  • 11. Measurement of electrical quantities - resistance, voltage, current, measurement methods.
  • 12. Measurement of electrical quantities - capacitance, inductance, measurement methods.
  • 13. Measurement of electrical quantities - power, power factor, frequency, measurement methods.
