- The objective of the course is to gain professional knowledge and practical skills in the field of preparation, writing, presentation, and defence of professional texts.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon successful completion of the course, the student is able to:
1. select a suitable topic of the text.
2. specify the objective of the text.
3. do quality literary research.
4. formulate hypotheses.
5. define research questions.
6. choose a methodology (suitable basic scientific methods) to confirm or reject the hypotheses, find answers to research questions, and to achieve the objective of the work.
7. present the results of his/her work.
8. discuss the results achieved.
9. evaluate the results achieved.
10. apply the formatting rules for professional texts.
11. properly present his/her work. - Syllabus
- Lectures:
- 1. Introduction in the course (the focus, teaching methods, completion of the course, selection of a topic, registration in National Library of Technology). Basics and principles of research and creative work. Copyright and plagiarism.
- 2. Specificities of individual types of professional texts. Working with resources (valuable literature, resources, VSTE library, searching in databases).
- 3. Title and introduction.
- 4. Literary research – first phase.
- 5. Literary research – second phase.
- 6. Hypotheses or research questions.
- 7. Methodology in points.
- 8. Methodology in the text.

- For successful completion of the course it is necessary to achieve at least 70 %.
In the final test, students can get up to 100 points, i.e. 100 %. Grading for the course: A 100 – 90, B 89.99 – 84, C 83.99 – 77, D 76.99 – 73, E 72.99 – 70, FX 69.99 – 30, F 29.99 – 0.

- Teacher's information
- Attendance is compulsory for students in the full-time form of study (both lessons and seminars). Absence not exceeding 30 % need not to be excused. Excused absence exceeding 30 % will only be accepted for serious reasons.
Students in the part-time form of study are obliged to consult their work with the teacher and proof finishing single parts of the seminar work during the period of the semester (according to the instructions of the teacher – sending by e-mails or putting the single parts of the work in IS VSTE):
Introduction (including objective and research questions): 2nd week of the semester Literature review (the first phase): 4th week of the semester Literature review (the second phase): 5th week of the semester Data and Methods: 7th week of the semester Results: 9th week of the semester Discussion: 11th week of the semester Conclusion: 12th week of the semester Finished seminar work: 13th week of the semester Presentation will be held in examination period. Information for students with an individual study plan: The student will follow the current methodology of writing professional texts at VŠTE. The methodology is accessible in IS VŠTE, as well as video instructions for writing a seminar paper. In the first week of the semester, the student will contact the course guarantor by e-mail at 4017@mail.vstecb.cz. He agrees with the guarantor on the procedure and method of communication. The course will end with a seminar work evaluated in the range of 0 - 100 points.
