Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with technology and management in two areas, the water and air transport. After completing the course students are able to describe the problems of technology and management of inland water transport, maritime transportation and air transportation, can characterize individual regularities and technology specifics in inland water transportation and air transportation, to determine costs in multimodal transport and to choose the optimal variant of financing the transportation.
Syllabus
  • 1) Inland water transport - basic characteristics. Conditions for the development of water transport - recent trends.
  • 2) Construction of ships. Types of vessels - inland and maritime.
  • 3) Waterways. Ports. Geography of water transportation network.
  • 4) Operating costs of water transport. Transport conditions of water transport.
  • 5) Shippers (shipping companies). Port operators. State administration in water transport.
  • 6) Shipping. The international law in high-sea water transport. Ports. Geography shipping network.
  • 7) Transport conditions in shipping. Maritime operators (shipping companies). The operators of seaports.
  • 8) Importance of air travel and transport. Transport outputs of air transport. Aircrafts - Basic characteristics of the aircrafts.
  • 9) Domestic and international aviation law and regulations. State administration and state authorities in aviation.
  • 10) Air freight transport under standard conditions.
  • 11) Air freight transport under special conditions.
  • 12) Cargo terminals.
  • 13) Shipping and handling equipment.
