Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to extend the students' knowledge to a B1 level according to the Common Frame of Reference for Languages. The course runs from unit 7 to unit 12. Upon the successful completion of this course, the students will be able to understand the main ideas expressed in standard language regarding common topics encountered at work, school, leisure, etc. They will be able to understand the meaning of many radio and television programs related to current events, regular topics or professional interests provided they are expressed at a standard speed and clearly. The students will be able to understand texts that contain vocabulary frequently used on daily basis or that relate to their work, and also the descriptions of events, feelings and wishes in a personal letter. The students can deal with most situations likely to arise when they travel in an area where the language is spoken. They can engage in spontaneous conversation on topics which are familiar to them, they are interested in or which relate to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events). The students can combine phrases in a simple way to describe their experiences and events, dreams, hopes and goals or briefly justify and explain their views and plans. The students can tell a story or describe the content of a book or film and express their opinion on them. They can write a simple concise text on familiar topics or personal interest and write personal letters describing experiences and impressions.
Learning outcomes
Upon the successful completion of this course, the students will be able to understand the main ideas expressed in written language about common topics encountered at work, at school, in their free time. They will understand the meaning of many radio and television programs that relate to current events or topics in the areas of their personal or professional interests, provided they are expressed at a standard speed and clearly. They will be able to write a simple concise text about familiar topics or topics involving a personal interest. They will be able to write personal letters describing their experiences and impressions. The students will be able to make a telephone call without preparation.

Exam conditions
Grading of the course for both full-time and part-time students: a semester exam during the semester, a written test in the examination period. Successful graduates of the course have to get at least 70 points (from both parts together).

Semester exam:

Semester test 30 % (25 % speaking exam, 5% written test)

Final test:

Final test using ROPOT in the IS (70 %)

Teacher's information
The lessons are provided in a contact form in a mode of seminars in allocated classrooms. The students are required to fulfill their tasks and actively participate in the lessons with the study materials brought with them. Attendance in lessons is defined in a separate internal standard of ITB (Evidence of attendance of students at ITB). It is compulsory for full-time students to achieve a 70 % attendance rate in the course of a semester. The students with the individual study plan (ISP) must notify the teacher no later than the second week of the semester. The ISP students must undertake the mid-semester and final evaluation. The mid-semester evaluation takes place in the term agreed upon with the teacher no later than two weeks before the end of teaching period.
