Upon the successful completion of this course, the students will be able to understand the main ideas expressed in standard language regarding common topics encountered at work, school, leisure, etc. They will be able to understand the meaning of many radio and television programs related to current events, regular topics or professional interests provided they are expressed at a standard speed and clearly. The students will be able to understand texts that contain vocabulary frequently used on daily basis or that relate to their work, and also the descriptions of events, feelings and wishes in a personal letter. The students can deal with most situations likely to arise when they travel in an area where the language is spoken. They can engage in spontaneous conversation on topics which are familiar to them, they are interested in or which relate to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events). The students can combine phrases in a simple way to describe their experiences and events, dreams, hopes and goals or briefly justify and explain their views and plans. The students can tell a story or describe the content of a book or film and express their opinion on them. They can write a simple concise text on familiar topics or personal interest and write personal letters describing experiences and impressions.
