Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with theoretical foundations in the form of lectures and exercises as well as professional knowledge in the fields of mechanical engineering. These are foundries, metal forming, foundry, welding, machining and technical inspection. It is a comprehensive cross-section of engineering technologies and defining the basic technology of foundry and forming of materials and correctly apply the technology of welding and soldering materials.
Learning outcomes
The student is oriented in the field of foundry, metal forming, welding, machining and technical control. He is able to work independently on the leading positions of individual technological sections and to correctly set the technology of component manufacturing according to the drawing documentation.
Syllabus
  • 1. Production of molds and cores - machine and special methods; mold casting - gravity casting, special casting methods 2. Stress of molds during casting - mechanical, thermal and chemical stress 3. Solidification and cooling of castings - shrinkage during solidification, lining 4. Properties of molten metals and alloys - meltability, flowability and absorbency, segregation 5. Metals and alloys used in foundry and their marking 6. Basic division of forming technology, area and volume 7. Physical nature and mechanism of plastic deformation; basic laws of deformation 8. Influence of temperature on plastic properties of material - consolidation, recovery, recrystallization; hot forming - area of ​​forming temperatures, metal heating technology 9. The most important forming processes - forging, rolling, bending, drawing, extrusion 10. Influence of fusion welding on the basic material - metallurgical processes during welding, temperature effect of welding; structure of the welded joint - TOO of the welded joint. 11. Weldability of material, evaluation of weldability of steel, cracks in welded joint 12. Submerged arc welding; electroslag welding; welding in protective atmospheres; resistance welding 13. Electron welding; laser welding; plasma welding and cutting; soldering.

Exam conditions
First Test: maximum 30% (0-30 points). Final Test: maximum 70% (0-70 points). Successful graduates of the course have to get totally at least 70 points: A 100 – 90, B 89,99 – 84, C 83,99 – 77, D 76,99 – 73, E 72,99 – 70, FX 69,99 – 30, F 29,99 - 0.

Attendance in lessons is defined in a separate internal standard of ITB (Evidence of attendance of students at ITB). It is compulsory, except of the lectures, for full-time students to attend 70 % lesson of the subjet in a semester.
