Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
In frame of subject, student is regaining knowledge in the field of essence, textures, feature and usage of non-metallic materials. Student will be acquainted with basic technologies processing and checking as well as with factors, which influenced characteristics of nonmetallic materials. In particular it will discuss polymeric, or more precisely. plastic materials, constructional ceramics and composite material with metal, polymeric and ceramic matrices with corpuscular and fibrous bracing phase. Further will be discuss glass ceramics materials and concretes, marginally and wood and leather. Integral part of education will be introduction of concrete examples using traversed materials especially in machine and also development trend in this area. Graduate of subject will be able describe quality nonmetallic materials, carry out their analysis and pass judgment on fitness their using at application in constructions.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to describe the basic properties of non-metallic engineering materials (glass, ceramic materials, plastics and PMCs, CMCs and MMCs composites), introduce the basic methods of processing these materials, to explain the principles of changes in the properties of fundamental non-metallic materials, describe the possibility of degradation processes in engineering materials and be able to classify the types of basic materials used in engineering. The student is able to evaluate basic structural processes in machine parts during their lifetime, to design fundamental properties of engineering materials testing and evaluate results, assess the adequacy of the choice the material simple machine parts with respect to the stress. Be able to determine the basic properties of materials to use certain technology, compare the basic material characteristics and in the field of materials to assess the economic aspects of its activities.
