V článku popisujeme vznik nového volitelného semináře Aplikovaná matematika pro techniky na VŠTE v Českých Budějovicích. Je zde diskutována výchozí situace výuky matematiky, podpořená průzkumy mezi studenty základního kurzu matematiky na této škole.

The paper describes the design of new seminar of Applied Mathematics for technicians in The Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice. We discussed the initial situation of mathematics teaching, it is supported by surveys among the students of the mathematics basic course on the school.
