This study aims to facilitate consumer choice for a wide range of translation services in České Budějovice. It should also help the service providers themselves. The research was conducted in the spring of 2015 on a sample of 54 subjects. The service providers were sent emails containing three requests for the translation of texts from Czech into a foreign language – a basic translation, an express translation, a professional translation. On the basis of the subsequent price quotes we carried out a comparative analysis: between the quote and the prices listed on the service provider´s website; between the prices for translating one standard page (SP); between discounts and supplementary charges. During the research a wide variation in prices was discovered. The average price was only slightly below the average price in the Czech Republic, which is significantly lower than the recommended minimum tariffs set by the Union of Interpreters and Translators (Jednota tlumočníků a překladatelů). The results of the research also add a new perspective to the idea that freelance translators are cheaper than an agency.

Tato studie si klade za cíl usnadnit výběr ze široké nabídky překladatelských služeb v Českých Budějovicích. Měla by také napomoci samotných poskytovatelům služeb. Výzkum byl proveden na jaře roku 2015 na vzorku 54 subjektů. Poskytovatelům služeb byly zaslány e-maily obsahující tři žádosti o překlad textů z češtiny do cizího jazyka - běžný překlad, expresní překlad, odborný překlad. Na základě následných cenových nabídek jsme provedli srovnávací analýzu: mezi cenovou nabídkou a cenami uvedenými poskytovatelem na internetových stránkách; mezi cenami za překlad jedné normostrany (NS); mezi slevami a doplatky. Během výzkumu byly zjištěny velké rozdíly v cenách. Průměrná cena byla pouze o málo nižší než je průměrná cena v České republice, která je výrazně nižší než jsou doporučené minimální tarify stanovené Jednotou tlumočníků a překladatelů. Výsledky výzkumu dávají nový pohled na otázku, zda jsou překladatelé na volné noze levnější než agentury.
