The chapter deals with questions such as (1) to what extent the Vysoká škola ekonomická (VŠE, University of Economics) in Prague picked up the threads of the Vysoká škola obchodní, (VŠO, Business School) of the Czech Technical University Prague (ČVUT), (2) whether the VŠE was a bearer of the interwar traditions of teaching economics, and (3) to what extent the VŠE followed the interwar scientific efforts, which had been fostered at the ČVUT. The author arrived at a conclusion that regarding personnel matters, the VŠE did not follow the tradition of the VŠO ČVUT of the First Czechoslovak Republic. Only Marxist economics was fostered at the VŠE; by no means was there any succession of the work of Professor Macek, and none of the VŠE specialists (former staff members of the VŠO) achieved renown and respect such as Professors Macek and Mertl. There was some continuation in statistics and accounting, but these fields could hardly significantly influence economic thinking. The VŠE in Prague did not become the ‘inheritor’ of the interwar traditions in economics. The latter school basically originated from the Vysoká škola politických a hospodářských věd University of Political and Economic Sciences), which was established by communists and was aimed at preparing specialists in a centrally-planned economy of the Stalinist type.
