The paper deals with the controversial issue of the feminization of the names of professions in contemporary French. Firstly, it focuses on the character of the French language in relation to the discrimination of women and on the relation between a language and a society in general. Further, it mentions political steps that had been taken in this matter in the Francophone countries, and finally, it summarizes the results of related researches of the past years so that the progress in this domain can be evaluated.

Předkládaný článek se zabývá kontroverzní problematikou přechylování názvů povolání v současné francouzštině, přičemž se nejprve zaměřuje na povahu francouzského jazyka ve vztahu k dikriminaci žen a na vztah mezi jazykem a společností obecně. Poté článek zmiňuje politické kroky, jež byly v této věci ve frankofonních zemích učiněny a závěrem shrnuje poznatky výzkumů z uplynulých let a zhodnocuje vývoj v této oblasti.
