Kniha je připomenutím myšlenkového přístupu a mravní pevnosti tří velikánů českých dějin (Jan Hus, Jan Amos Komenský, Tomáš Garigue Masaryk) ve třech dějinných situacích. Důraz je kladen na mezilidskou vzdálenost – náboženství, politice, ekonomice či každodenním životě. Každá z pojednávaných osobností je přiblížena primárně v mezních životních situacích bytostného rozhodování, kdy se postavila „Face to face“, s přímočarou odhodlaností nešvarů své doby.

The book is a reminder of the intellectual approach and moral strength of the three giants of Czech history (Jan Hus, Jan Amos Comenius, Thomas Garrigue Masaryk) in three historical situations. Emphasis is placed on interpersonal distance - religion, politics, economics, and everyday life. Each of the described personalities is presented primarily in extreme situations of essential decision making when they stand "face to face" with the straightforward determination of maladies of their time.
