Historie zámku Weitra sahá do počátku 13. století, kdy byl hrad společně s městem Weitra založen rakouským šlechticem Hadmarem II. na nejvyšším místě v celém okolí. Spolu s hradem založil rakouský šlechtic Hadmar II. se svolením českého krále na místě staršího slovanského sídliště i město Weitra. Na místě původního hradu pak byl v 16. století vybudován zámek, který svou současnou podobu získal v 18. století, kdy po ničivých požárech, které postihly město Weitra včetně zámku, bylo třeba zámek poměrně rozsáhle zrekonstruovat.

Weitra history of the castle dates back to the early 13th century, when the castle along with the City Weitra founded by an Austrian nobleman Hadmarem II. at the highest point of the area. Togethers castle founded Austrian nobleman Hadmar II. Courtesy of Czech king in the place of Slavic settlement, the city Weitra. On the site of the original castle was then in the 16th century built castle, which gained its present form in the 18th century, when the devastating fires that hit the city Weitra including the castle, it was necessary to lock quite extensively reconstruct.
