Norma stanovuje požadavky na střechy a zásady návrhu střech stavebních objektů. Tato norma neplatí pro střechy s textilní krytinou, nafukovací haly, skleníky, střechy vytvořené z prosvětlovací konstrukce a střechy, které jsou součástí technologických zařízení. Norma platí pro nové střechy. Pro rekonstrukce a opravy střech platí alespoň tak, aby byla zcela zajištěna ochrana chráněné konstrukce, ochrana prostředí před vodou, a aby bylo přiměřeně zajištěno vnitřní prostředí. Norma platí i pro podzemní ležaté části budov chránící konstrukce nebo prostředí pod sebou. Konstrukční principy uplatněné v této normě platí přiměřeně i pro balkóny, lodžie, koruny atik a zdí a římsy.

The standard specifies the requirements for roofs of buildings and their design principles. This standard does not apply to roofs with textile covering, inflatable buildings, greenhouses, roof made of translucent structures and roofs, which are part of the technological equipment. It applies to new roofs. Concerning to the reconstruction and repair of roofs, the standard can be used at least to ensure the protection of constructions, environmental protection from water, and to ensure adequate internal environment. The standard also applies to horizontal underground parts of buildings or structures protecting the environment beneath it. The design principles applied in this standard can be applied to balconies, crown attics, walls and ledges.
