V průmyslových halách dochází při požáru k hromadění kouře, který ohrožuje uživatele objektu. Za těchto podmínek musí být budova otevřena, aby kouř vyšel do atmosféry a aby hasiči mohli do ní vstoupit. Avšak toto otevření způsobí, že nový kyslík podporuje další hoření. To je také jeden z důvodů, proč hasiči doporučují použití v halových objektech větracích otvorů, klapek, popř. průduchů se samočinným ovládáním a dalších zařízení (např. kouřových clon, zástěn, rolet atd.) co nejdříve po vzniku požáru tak, aby bylo zabráněno jakékoliv akumulaci a aby bylo průběžně odstraněno teplo a kouř, jež se vytvářejí v ohnisku požáru.
