The purpose of this article is to describe a simple task in which we will try to create a mathematical model demonstrating navigation of a sailing yacht on the open sea heading to a set point. We will try to work out the way how to find the optimal starting direction for the yacht, so it reaches its destination in the shortest time possible. We will deal with the case where the yacht travels consistently upwind.

Záměrem tohoto článku je popsat jednoduchou úlohu, v níž vytvoříme matematický model navigace námořní jachty na volném moři, která směřuje k určenému pevnému cíli. Budeme hledat postup, jak zjistit startovní úhel tak, aby cesta jachty byla nejrychlejší. Zaměříme se na situaci, kdy se jachta bude nucena pohybovat neustále v protivětru.
