Nadměrný hluk je jedním z nejzávažnějších faktorů působících negativně na zdravotní stav obyvatel. Dlouhodobé působení hluku může vedle poruch sluchu vyvolat i řadu onemocnění, jako jsou stres, neurózy, nespavost, změny krevního tlaku. Hlavním zdrojem hluku v prostředí je pozemí automobilová doprava, na druhém místě je doprava železniční a doprava letecká. Jedním z nejproblémovějších hlukových zátěží v zástavbách je hluk z prováděných staveb. Negativní působení hluku je zvýrazněno vysokou koncentrací obyvatel na poměrně malých plochách. Podíl obyvatelstva zasaženého nadměrným hlukem se pohybuje těsně kolem 50 %.

One of the most serious problem is excessive noise negatively affecting inhabitant's health. Long term excessive noise effect can be responsible for dysacousia and wide spectrum illnesses arise, for example: stress, neurosis, insomnia, changing blood pressure. Land-carriage is main source of noise in the environment; railway traffic and air traffic produce noise in the environment, at the second place in the order. One of the serious problem is noise running from construction activity in inhabitants' areas. Negative noise affect is emphasizing hight concentration of inhabitants, who live on relatively small areas. Excessive noise hits close aboard 50% of population. ČR legislation solves noise load to environment, as amended by Act about public health protection no. 258/2000 Coll. and statute government as amended by Act no.148/2006 Coll. Government administrative order determines technical requirements of the product in light of noise emission amended by Act no. 9/ 2002 Coll.
