Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The main goal of the course is for students to acquire basic knowledge of the general economics of the company and subsequently with a specific focus on the economics of the transport company. The course expands students' knowledge of general economics and economics. Students will get acquainted with the basic concepts used in the economics of transport, understand the specifics of transport financing, calculation of demonstrable loss, reasonable profit. Can characterize and specify accounting operations in transport companies and can allocate costs between carriers. The graduate of the course is able to economically understand the financing of transport as a whole.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain: Specialities and principles of transport business. Financing of transport corporations. Transport and tariff policy. Analysis of transport demand, structure of transport market, characteristics and factors of transport demand, transport demand elasticity. Evaluation of time savings in transport. Measurement of demand and transport market analysis. Analysis of transport supply, characteristics of supply, factors of supply of quality transport services, transport supply elasticity. Costs in transport sector. Costs of a transport corporation, structure and dynamics. Evaluation of prime costs influence on economics of a transport company. Costs of an user of transport. External costs in transport. Economic costs and types of congestions. Efficiency indices of traffic in rail, road, air and water transport. Planning and optimizing of traffic operation, planning of structure and potential, operating planning. Pricing in transport services, price discrimination in transport, price setting at stochastic demand, price setting in peak traffic. Investment calculation, principles of investment calculation, methods of investment calculation, inflation influence and investment risk, investment portfolio. Evaluation of effectiveness of transport investment.

For seminary work student can receive a maximum of 30 points. Instructions for seminary work determined at the beginning of the semester by the teacher.

A written examination may receive a maximum of 70 points. Total score represents the sum of points for the seminary work and written examination.
