Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the important parts of the circulatory processes, organizations of forwarding services. Students will become familiar with the issue of shipping according to FIATA, including basic terms and activities of forwarder. After completing the course the student is able to work in the Forwarding company or transportation company - Absolvent of the course knows basic issues and terminology in the field of freight forwarding and transportation.
Learning outcomes
The graduate understands the meaning and principle of freight forwarding. Graduates of the course are familiar with the services provided by the freight forwarder and can characterize the various transport modes in the context of the activities of the freight forwarder. The graduate is able to handle the most used SW products used by the sender. The graduate of the course is able to perform freight activities according to FIATA standards independently.
Syllabus
  • 1. Meaning of forwarding. Basic concepts.
  • 2. Fields of forwarder activity. Demand, supply, purchase order, sales contract in relation to shippers. Responsibility.
  • 3. Quality of services according to international standards.
  • 4. The current legislation of a national and international forwarding.
  • 5. General forwarding conditions, codex of forwarders.
  • 6. Incoterms 2010.
  • 7. Strategy of forwarding company and price policy. Cost calculation and pricing. Calculation documentation, billing, price formation.
  • 8. Organization of the forwarding company. Informatics in the company.
  • 9. Services provided by the shipper. Professional services. Maritime transport, railway transport, Road transportation. Inland water transport, air transport. Collection services. Transportation of heavy and oversized cargo. Container transportation. Combined transport. Transportation of dangerous goods. Customs services.
  • 10. Transportation of dangerous goods. The role of the parties and their responsibilities.
  • 11. PLM Transportation. Terminology and legislation regarding oversized loads. Means of transport.
  • 12. Logistics and freight forwarding.
  • 13. Companies engaged in the information systems in transport and warehouse logistics.

Exam conditions
Delivery and presentation of the semester work + Comprehensive assessment of the students activities: maximum 30% (0-30 points), Final Test: maximum 70% (0-70 points). Successful graduates of the course have to get totally at least 70 points: A 100 – 90, B 89,99 – 84, C 83,99 – 77, D 76,99 – 73, E 72,99 – 70, FX 69,99 – 30, F 29,99 - 0.

Attendance in lessons is defined in a separate internal standard of ITB (Evidence of attendance of students at ITB). It is compulsory, except of the lectures, for full-time students to attend 70 % lesson of the subjet in a semester.
