Course objectives supported by learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide an overview of current legislation protected intangible assets (intellectual property objects), to focus on some of them, especially on certain industrial property rights (patents, utility models and industrial designs, trademarks), copyrights and rights to copyright related, an overview of international intellectual property law and EU law in this area and to include intellectual property in a broader context with other protected interests. In this context, it is about the terms of an interpretation of unfair competition, protection of commercial businesses, and personal protection.

Syllabus

• 1. Intellectual property rights - structure of the legal sector, intangible assets, intellectual property in business practice
• 2. Industrial property I - Structure of Industrial Property, characteristics and specificities of individual industrial property rights, subject protection, the awarding procedure of the Office of Industrial Property
• 3. Industrial Property II - registration of an invention, industrial design or utility model, their preparation and requirements, the role of the patent attorney
• 4. Industrial property III - trademarks and protection of designations of origin and geographical indications
• 5. Copyright I - types of copyrighted works, personal and property rights to   work, employee work, the author´s rights, the specifics of the Internet as an environment of copyright
• 6. Copyright II - the rights of performers, rights of phonogram and audiovisual recordings producers, rights of radio and television broadcasters, the rights of the database makers
• 7. License - a license as a commercial use of intellectual property, types of licenses, license agreements, royalties (license fees)
• 8. Protection of software - specifics of software protection such as copyright works
• 9. Enforcement of intellectual property     CR - legal means and their applications, claims, rights and obligations with respect to   customs authorities, criminal offenses in the field of intellectual property rights, options of compensation for damages and other sanctions against the infringer
• 10. International agreements and intellectual property. Legislation and intellectual propertyin EU and its projection into the Czech law
• 11. Protection of intellectual property and unfair competition
• 12. Protection of intellectual property and the protection of the reputation and name of the entity, protection of personality (privacy) and protection of business firms
• 13. Protection of intellectual property and trade secrets
