Course objectives supported by learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is familiarization with practical possibilities of solving interpersonal communication problems, verbal and non-verbal means with emphasis on model situations in which a worker in building industry can encounter. Another objective of the subject is the introduction to the theory of communication and its practical use, intentional regulation of one´s own communicative behaviour and behaviour of other participants of the communication process and mastering of assertive and tactic actions. After passing the subject successfully students are able to describe basic terms related to the field of interpersonal communication. Students know the main communication competences, they are able to interpret the ways of their use and to explain their importance for a successful performance of their profession.
Learning outcomes
Theoretical knowledge of communication techniques. Practical communication skills usable in construction. Ability to distinguish between assertive and non-assertive behavior and to apply it. Know how to improve your communication skills.

  • 3. Verbal communication, paralinguistic components of the communication and introduction to nonverbal communication.
  • 4. The role of nonverbal communication and its relationship to   verbal communication in construction.

  • 7. Management interviews and principles of discussion.
  • 8 Managerial Communication.
  • 9. Communication in   team.
  • 10. The working meeting.
  • 11. Assertiveness and characteristics of assertive behavior of   construction worker.
  • 12. Problems and their causes in the   communication of workers in the construction industry.   Disturbances in interpersonal communication, communication barriers, conflict management.

Grading of the course:

First Test/Seminar Work/ … : maximum 30% (0-30 points), Final Test: maximum 70% (0-70 points). Successful graduates of the course have to get totally at least 70 points. NOTE: Activity on the ongoing tasks assigned by the teacher during the semester is mandatory. External form of study:

- Obtaining credit 100 -70,

- The possibility of repeat test from 69.99 to 30,

- Failure to obtain credit from 29.99 to 0.

Attendance in lessons is defined in a separate internal standard of ITB (Evidence of attendance of students at ITB). It is compulsory, except of the lectures, for full-time students to attend 70 % lesson of the subjet in a semester.
